About IGnite
The IGnite project is an Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education initiative led by the University of Colombo, Faculty of Arts. It brings together five partner institutions for higher education, three from Sri Lanka (University of Colombo, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, and University of Peradeniya) and two from Europe (University of Zagreb and Erasmus University of Rotterdam), to introduce an online Bachelor’s Degree in Sustainable Regional Planning and Climate Resilience for youth in Sri Lanka.
Higher education in Sri Lanka is free for all in national or state universities that make it one of the competitive entrance qualifications. Therefore, this programme targets "eligible youth", those who have passed the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) examination with university entrance qualifications yet could not enter to a state university due to the competitive selection process made by the lack of resources and opportunities. By enrolling them in a globally relevant, industry-linked degree, IGnite empowers this underserved group to contribute to Sri Lanka's green economy and sustainable development goals
